Floorcloth
Info
Handpainted floorcloths are a unique finishing
touch to any room & a fun alternative to ordinary area rugs.
They were popular in this country during the 18th Century. When the
clipper ships arrived from England , the settlers used the ship's
sails to cover floors. They painted them with designs and the
sailcloths provided a functional and inexpensive alternative to
carpets.
In todays world, I use a
synthetic canvas. This product is more durable than traditional
canvas. It does not require hemming and can be cut to any shape,
lays flat and doesn't crease. I use acrylic paints and seal the
surface with 6 coats of polyacrylic. these floorcloths are
extremely durable and will not mildew. Cleanup is minimal, just use
a damp mop or sponge.
